What BlockCast checks for golf

Every block gets a risk score from 0 to 100: green under 25, yellow under 55, red above. The worst factor drives the score and the others add to it. These are the default weights; you can change any of them in the app under Adjust.

Comfortable feels-like temperature: 8 to 31 °C (46 to 88 °F). Wind adds risk from 20 km/h (12 mph) sustained or 38 km/h (24 mph) in gusts.

How it works

  1. Pick golf and your spot. Use your location or search any place in the world, and save up to three.
  2. Read your week at a glance. Choose 2, 3, 4 or 6 hour blocks and the hours you actually play. Tap any block for the hour-by-hour detail and the reason behind its colour.
  3. Plan it and stop checking. Add the session to your planner and your calendar. BlockCast re-checks every forecast and tells you if a planned session turns bad.

Golf weather questions

How windy is too windy for golf?

Most golfers start to feel the wind at 15 to 20 km/h (10 to 12 mph), and above 30 to 40 km/h (20 to 25 mph) club selection and putting get genuinely hard. BlockCast starts adding risk at 20 km/h of sustained wind and counts 45 km/h, or gusts near 70 km/h, as a full red. You can move that line under Adjust if you play links courses for fun.

Can you play golf in the rain?

Light rain is playable with the right gear, but soaked greens, standing water and cold hands add up fast, which is why rain carries a weight of 9 out of 10 for golf. BlockCast takes the wettest of three forecast models, so a green block means every credible model agrees it stays dry. Always follow your course’s lightning policy.

What is the best time of day to golf?

It depends on the day, which is the point of BlockCast. In summer an early tee time usually dodges heat and UV, in spring and fall the warm middle of the day often wins. Pick 2, 3, 4 or 6 hour blocks to match a 9 or an 18 and compare morning and afternoon side by side.

Where the data comes from

Forecasts come from Open-Meteo. Rain is the wettest of three models (the local best match, ECMWF and Canada’s GEM), so a green block means they all agree. Radar is the North American composite from Environment and Climate Change Canada; official alerts come from Environment Canada and the US National Weather Service.
