Pickleball weather, scored for outdoor courts

An outdoor pickleball is a hollow plastic ball with holes in it, and the wind knows. BlockCast scores every block of your week for pickleball with wind weighted higher than for tennis, plus rain, heat and UV, so you can pick the calm morning before you text the group.

What BlockCast checks for pickleball

Every block gets a risk score from 0 to 100: green under 25, yellow under 55, red above. The worst factor drives the score and the others add to it. These are the default weights; you can change any of them in the app under Adjust.

Comfortable feels-like temperature: 8 to 30 °C (46 to 86 °F). Wind adds risk from 20 km/h (12 mph) sustained or 38 km/h (24 mph) in gusts.

How it works

  1. Pick pickleball and your spot. Use your location or search any place in the world, and save up to three.
  2. Read your week at a glance. Choose 2, 3, 4 or 6 hour blocks and the hours you actually play. Tap any block for the hour-by-hour detail and the reason behind its colour.
  3. Plan it and stop checking. Add the session to your planner and your calendar. BlockCast re-checks every forecast and tells you if a planned session turns bad.

Pickleball weather questions

How windy is too windy for pickleball?

Outdoor balls are light and perforated, so they drift sooner than a tennis ball: many players notice it at 15 km/h (10 mph) and find 25 km/h (15 mph) frustrating. BlockCast weighs wind at 8 out of 10 for pickleball, against 6 for tennis, and scores gusts separately.

Can you play pickleball in the rain?

Wet courts are slippery and painted lines get slick, so most clubs close them. Rain carries the full 10 out of 10 weight, and BlockCast uses the wettest of three forecast models so a green block really means dry.

Does BlockCast work for snowbird season in Florida and Arizona?

Yes. Save up to three places, for example home and your winter spot, and switch between them from the top of the screen. Units follow your phone (°F and mph in the US) and you can change them in Settings.

Where the data comes from

Forecasts come from Open-Meteo. Rain is the wettest of three models (the local best match, ECMWF and Canada’s GEM), so a green block means they all agree. Radar is the North American composite from Environment and Climate Change Canada; official alerts come from Environment Canada and the US National Weather Service.
